Last weekend 6 students (Christine Antonsen, Elizabeth Bentivegna, Ilona Brand, Nora Hayes, Sam Mater, and Amanda Strominger) as well as professor Cynthia Taylor attended the 2015 Ohio Celebration of Women in Computing in Sandusky, OH.
Christine Antonsen’s poster on “Dynamic Selfish Routing” was a winner for the poster session. Sam Mater’s poster on “The Use and Misuse of Disposable Email” received an honorable mention. Congratulations to them all!

LaFentres ’14 presents at Tapia 2015

Last week during the ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing, recent alumna Krista LaFentres ’14 presented a poster on her work with Professor Cynthia Taylor on The Use and Misuse of Disposable Email.
2014 ACM Regional Programming Contest
November 11th, 2014
The Oberlin College programming contest teams had a strong showing at the regional ACM meet this weekend. There were over 140 teams, including many from powerhouses such as Carnegie Mellon University and University of Waterloo. Our top team, “Megahurts”, came in 15th overall, which placed Oberlin as the second highest ranking school at the Youngstown site (the largest of the four regional sites).
Our competitors were Nathan Paige, Nathan Klein, Laura Watiker, Evan Hertafeld, Scott Hulver, Sam Rossin, Alex Cotsarelis, Eren Guendelsberger, Chris Egerton, Amanda Strominger, Devon Wells, and Tim Hennigan.
Congratulations on a great performance! Next up is the Denison contest in the Spring.
CSCI Winter Term Ideas Meeting

The purpose of this is to allow people to come together to talk about what they would like to do for WT and to see if any group projects coalesce. This is an opportunity to see if there are any common interests that might benefit from a group project.
We’ve done this the past few years and among other things the Prestissimo project emerged from it. What will this year bring?

2014 Muskingum University Programming Contest

Oberlin students did a fantastic job at the Muskingum University programming contest this past weekend. Two of our teams (“Lavascript” and “Public Static Void Pain”) took first and second place, and all our teams solved multiple problems, despite this being the first contest for most.
Our competitors were Laura Watiker, Paul Buser, Sam Rossin, Alex Cotsarelis, Eren Guendelsberger, Chris Egerton, Will Banfield, Alex Peterson, Max Grusky, Amanda Strominger, Devon Wells, and Tim Hennigan.
