Alec's Winter Term Journal

Thus far there have been few results.
What has been achieved:

After a minor setback dealing with the company and their billing/shipping procedures, the computer equipment arrived and the Computer has been constructed. As best I can tell, it is working.
The Base Kernal has been installed on the machine. It boots up correctly, claims to have the network cards working, and I can log on as root to attempt to get things done.
I have constructed a web page which is ready to post SQL calls to wherever it is that will deal with the database. Not particularly impressive, just a form right now, but it will improve.
I have written some perl which will code up HTML menues, but apparently perl will not work so well for a website that will go up on occs.
I have experimented with some other perl things, which has been educational.
I have attempted to learn more about networking by reading up in my linux book.

What is currently in the running:

I have asked John Donaldson for an Oracle account. As soon as I have this set up, I will attempt to use the sample tables they have to get an applet connected and up on a website.
I am continuing to read up on networking.
I will use some java stuff to connect up a database once I get the oracle stuff set up.
