You’ve found the lab website for all CSCI 151 sections. As you can see in the left-hand menu, this website will contain the labs assignments for each week of the course. Let’s not worry about all of that stuff just yet. This pre-lab is about getting yourself ready to start coding in Java. In the process, you will also get a feel for our lab website. So, let’s get started!

Community Guidelines

Our department is dedicated to fostering a warm, encouraging, and supportive student community. For many people, learning a new subject can be accompanied by some feelings of uncertainty, anxiety, or even intimidation. We want everyone to know that these feelings are completely natural, and we will work together to make the class and lab an inviting place to learn and grow. These guidelines are on top of Oberlin’s Code of Conduct.

Signing Up With Github

This semester, we will be using GitHub to distribute the starter files for your labs and for you to submit your work. GitHub is a widely used platform to store code that uses the Git protocol to save all changes to your code. The great thing about using Git is that it allows you to go back to earlier saved versions of your code if you make a mistake.
README You should save your files back to git whenever you make progress on part of the lab assignment, and especially before you leave the lab.

Questionnaire

One more thing before you go… If you haven’t done so already, please complete the Questionnaire. This questionnaire will help your professor get to know you. You can find the questionnaire on your section’s Blackboard site.
That’s it for the pre-lab! Congratulations on getting this far already. We look forward to seeing you in Lab 1 for our first Java program!
