Section: Questions for Team
- YUCH! Is it too technical? Is it too waterred down?
- Definition of computer OK?
- I'm worried about analog vs. digital. Did we give it too much
space? Did we define the terms in clear and useful ways?
- Do we need more or less on binary conversion?
- Is other bases discussion in review questions appropriate?
- Should we worry about other text encoding schemes (EBCDIC?)
- I know I glossed over round-off error. I thought going in much
more detail would be more confusing than helpful.
- Machine language - HELP! I think this will be easier after we
see Chris' virtual machine. I tried to describe a general level
machine / assempler language, but again, I tried to avoid the details
that would confuse more than inform.
- Notice that I left everything very theoretical here. I figured
we could hit bits and bytes, RAM and ROM in the hardware chapter.
- Should I even mention assembler? or other programming languages? My inclination is not to, and just to refer back here when other
classes need the ideas.
- I think (and hope) this will be the hardest chapter to write. The ideas are so abstract! I wonder how fully even some CS majors
understand all these concepts! I hope we did them justice
- Is it relevant? I think we will keep referring back to this
chapter throughout the entire curriculum. I don't want to say all
this stuff just for its own sake. Did we pick topics that are truly
useful in understanding what computing is?
