There are buttons on the upper right corner of many windows that allow you to do some manipulations with the window. Play with these buttons in the paint window and see if you can figure out their purpose. You should find a button that makes the window fill up the entire screen. This is called maximizing. It is often a good idea to maximize a program if you are doing a lot of work on it. This helps you concentrate on the project at hand, and keeps other programs out of the way. It also gives your current program all the screen real estate.
