Module #6: Operating Systems
Goals
Students will understand what an operating system does
Students will become familiar with several different operating systems
Students will learn about the important features of an operating system, including the file management system
Students will practice using the features of several operating systems to locate and copy files, format disks, and other skills
Students will recognize the difference between literal and symbolic directory management schemes.
Students will be able to manipulate the directory structure of even completely unfamiliar systems through file management utilities
Students will place and retrieve files accurately in a complex file structure using the save and load commands of unfamiliar software
Prerequisite Skills
Comfort with the keyboard and mouse
Experience with the STAIR process
Background in Essentials of Computing
