Sometimes you will see .. (two dots) listed as a directory. That is a special name for the PARENT of the current directory. Select this to "back up" a level towards the root directory. When you first look at a disk, check to see if you are looking at the root directory. If not, it is a really good idea to start navigating by going to the root. Just keep backing up until you are at the root.
