Program Manager is the main program in Windows 3.1. What you see when you look at Program Manager are various program group icons. If you double click on these program group icons the program groups are opened and other icons are visible. These various icons are symbolic because they do not really represent files or directories; they are pathways to files, programs or directories. These icons may be deleted without deleting the file itself. If the icon is deleted, the program is still in your computer. The icons may also be copied into several program groups for the convenience of the user. For example, file manager is used so frequently, the icon (which is usually a yellow file cabinet) is copied from the main program group to other program groups such as accessories.
